This post is a THANK YOU for being a part of The 30s Guide community!
These are my very best tips to improve your outfits — from fashion to personal style.
1. Take a photo of your outfit every day
*Or at least the days you get nice & dressed up!*
I’ve been doing this for over a year, and I organize them on my phone with seasonal albums, e.g. “Fall Outfits”. This helps me get out of a style rut, because I can see my favorite outfits and either duplicate them or be inspired for a new outfit with the same clothes. While I love Pinterest for outfit inso, this has helped me more because I don’t own the clothes on Pinterest.
I usually post my Outfit Of The Day pic on Instagram, so follow me there if you want to see my daily outfits:

2. Use a full-length mirror
How many times have you gotten dressed in the morning, and the only time you looked at your whole outfit was when it was still hanging in your closet? And then you might do your makeup in the bathroom mirror, so you’re still only seeing your outfit from the waist up.
Looking at your outfit in a full-length mirror will help you see if you need to add a piece or take one away to enhance the style of that outfit.
3. Take a last look before leaving the house
This will help you to see if you need to add an accessory or take one away. Or if you need to adjust your hair or makeup to suit your outfit. The last look has saved me countless times from looking discombobulated to instead looking chic and put together.
BONUS TIP! Combine these first 3 tips to take an OOTD pic in front of a full-length mirror, adjust your outfit as needed, and then save the photos in your camera roll album.
4. Have an arsenal of hairstyles
Hairstyle is one of the most neglected pieces of someone’s look. Typically, women default to their favorite hairstyle regardless of what their outfit needs to look its best.
Instead, think of 3-5 hairstyles you can easily do. Take a photo of each to help you remember that you can implement these when you’re getting dressed. Here are my 3 of my favorite hairstyles:
5. Restyle your older pieces
You bought these clothes because you liked them, after all. So, if you’re stuck on how to style them in a way that’s fresh and modern, do a Pinterest search, such as “skinny jeans updated 2022”.
If you restyle the pieces you already own, you’ll zero in on your personal style and not suffer from this next topic…
6. Declutter your closet
If you own way too many clothes that you don’t even like, you’ll waste time every single morning ruffling through the options. And you’ll likely land on just a few of your go-to pieces that you wear and re-wear again. Sound familiar? (It’s almost like I’ve done this exact thing before…)
Here’s a list of things to consider decluttering to free up space:
7. Before shopping, know exactly what you want
Before you go to your favorite retailer, make a list of the items you need to complete outfits. This will save you so much money on regretful purchases!
8. Buy higher quality clothes
Instead of shopping with the mindset of “How much stuff can I afford?”, think “What’s the highest quality I can afford?” Especially with closet essentials like jeans and blouses, outerwear, and accessories, it’s better to have 1 stellar piece that lasts for years than a bunch of pieces that look cheap.
For accessories, I recommend having a go-to set of shoes, handbag, and a belt (&/or a hat!) in the same neutral color.
9. Phone a friend
We all need friends who will be honest with us about clothing…and life, really! Be that friend and hold onto those friends!
10. Practice lovely thoughts of yourself
How’s your mental self-talk? Replace any negative thoughts with beautiful ones, and you will begin to feel more beautiful every day. If you don’t know where to start, here are some things that are true about you:
