Casual and chic slip dresses are a clothing staple year-round, especially if you’re an outfit repeater like me!
I adore a silky slip dress, and right now they’re really trendy, which means the market is flooded with options. You can style them dressed up for an elegant, sexy evening look or dressed down for a fun, every day vibe. In this blog post, I’m styling 2 slip dresses (one midi and one maxi) with belts, heels, sandals, and purses to reveal their versatility for multiple outfits.
Here are 5 slip dresses that range in price from $74 to $128. The assumption that the priciest one is the best couldn’t be further from the truth. Here’s a tip when online shopping:

I’ve found a slip dress I absolutely love & recommend… and several I don’t. Let me show you what I’ve found.
Option #1 is from J.Crew — a cupro/viscose blend. Viscose is also breathable, but my issue is that it costs more, but J.Crew quality has been lacking in recent years, so nothing I’ve bought lasts more than 2 years for me.
Option #2 is from Banana Republic — 100% polyester, which means it neither wicks nor absorbs sweat, so it’s sticky in heat.
Option #3 is from Topshop — 96% polyester. Enough said.
Option #4 is from Reformation — Viscose (cool), but dry clean only. Not gonna happen.
Option #5 is my pick: a silk dress from Quince that is machine washable! 👏 Silk is good for summer, because it doesn’t absorb sweat, and it’s breathable. It’s also available in 6 colors for neutral lovers and those of us who think maroon is neutral.
Now that you have your slip dress picked out, it’s time to see how we can style it to fit your lifestyle.
Slip dresses make a fantastic foundation for an outfit, because they’re so versatile. You can dress them up for evening wear or down for a casual daytime look. Here are 3 ways I styled my beige slip dress (old from H&M) for the daytime:
Once you have your slip dress, play around with the way you style it. You can swap out belts, jewelry, jackets, shoes, and handbags to find several versatile outfits you feel great in. And these dresses are unfussy, so you’ll feel comfortable in them.
Here is how I style my top recommendation for a slip dress (mentioned above).
And just for fun, here’s how I style this silk slip dress for spring & summer daytime looks:
Once I pull out my fall & winter wardrobe, I’ll have to restyle it with tall boots and jackets, and then blog about it, of course. Stay tuned for a future post!
